Youth Scholarship for Mission Trips

2018

For the past few years UMVIM has planned for the opportunity to offer grants to UMVIM mission teams that include young adults. Because of a special donation and the growth from it the opportunity became a reality in 2017. Grants of $1,000 each were awarded to 14 foreign UMVIM mission teams who had at least one young adult team member age 16-35. This project depleted the amount available for 2017.

The amount of funding available for such grants in 2018 is not known at this time but UMVIM is committed to the following:

           1) awarding 5 grants of $200 each to domestic UMVIM teams with at least one                        young adult member (ages 18-25)

           2) awarding a grant of $1,000 to each foreign mission UMVIM team with at least                       one young adult member (ages 16-35) for as long as there is funding available.

Our hope is that these grants will encourage our young adults to be involved in mission work.

Requirements For Becoming A Team Leader

“My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love.”       1 John 3:18

Some of the greatest experiences on faith journeys are mission trips.  UMVIM’s motto of “Christian Love In Action” gives the missioner the opportunity to serve our Lord in many ways in locations all over our country and around the world.  Often, the desire to lead a mission team will arise out of previous mission experiences.

There are five requirements that must be met in order for individuals to lead short-term mission teams to domestic and international locations.  They are:

  • ·       Successful participation on an UMVIM-SC team (International team leaders must have participated in an international team.  Domestic team leaders may participate in either a domestic or international team.)
  • ·       Written endorsement of their UMVIM-SC team leader (most recent is recommended).
  • ·       Written endorsement of their local pastor.
  • ·       Endorsement of the UMVIM-SC Executive Committee.
  • ·       Successful completion of both Team Leader Training and Safe Sanctuary Training.

For additional information, contact Rev. Cynthia Taylor at 864-637-8523 or cctaylor@umcsc.org.

As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”  John 20:21
